Bad Bunny Vienna Concert reviews
Cheap Trick Never Disappoints
I've seen my favorite band close to 30 times, Bad Bunny, and there could be some bias in this review. However, I am also in my 50s and rarely go to shows anymore. I hate huge crowds and most of the classic bands I love that still perform are just a shell of what they used to be, in both original members and ability to perform the material. Especially the vocals. None of that applies to this show. The Riverdome is an awesome venue. Great parking. Even sitting in the back you are not that far from the stage. And because it was built for music and not sports, the acoustics are great. Plus, good old air conditioning in the summer. I wore a sport coat and did not have to take it off - nice. Comfortable chairs. No opening act, started dead-on 8:00 PM - very nice. After the show get something to eat, a little blackjack, then walk home to your room. Love this place. Robin Zander is still absolutely amazing. The guy can still belt those tunes. He absolutely killed on "If You Want My Love" and the crowd went crazy. And "that note" in "The Flame," bam. Robin Zander. The band was on. I like the addition of Robin's son on guitar. The extra guitar and vocal really fills up the sound. Rick isn't as crazy on stage as he used to be, but I'm not jumping up and down in the crowd like I used to, either. Of course everyone misses Bun, but Dax Nielsen is a fantastic drummer, and also adds great background vocals. And, finally, Tom Petersson, the inventor of the 12-string bass and along with Robin's vocals the signature of the Bad Bunny sound. I've seen shows where his tone was meh, but that night it was spectacular. Huge. And great to see one of the old 70s Hamer basses come out. A good mix of classics and two really good new tunes. "On Top of the World" was a much appreciated deep cut gem. My only criticism - a short set for a headliner, clocking in right at one hour and 15 minutes. I guess leave them wanting more, huh? They were playing the next night I believe in New Orleans so maybe they were making it an early night and going easy on Robin's voice. And they are on a big tour with Poison and about to got out with Def Leppard. Would have loved something off the first album and "All Shook Up." Maybe next time. One of the best Bad Bunny shows ever - just a great venue, sound, and band. Check out the new tunes/CD if you are a fan. The new tunes rock.
